Assembling, adjusting and preparing your stunt scooter for first use
How do I use my stunt scooter for the first time?
Yes! Your stunt scooter has arrived – it's going to be a blast! But before you hit the skate park or try your first bunny hop, it's wise to check that everything is secure and properly adjusted. In a few simple steps, you can get your stunt scooter ready to ride.
Step 1: Check your setup
- Are all the bolts tight? Check the handlebars, clamp, headset, and wheel bolts.
- Does your handlebar turn smoothly? Test the headset for squeaking or sticking when you turn.
- Are your wheels tight but running smoothly? They should be secure, but still turn freely without rattling.
- Check the deck and grip tape: Is everything neat and rough enough for good grip?
Step 2: Adjust if necessary
Every rider has their own preference. Maybe you prefer higher or lower handlebars. Grab an Allen wrench and check:
- Is your steering wheel straight?
- Is your clamp securely tightened, without any movement? Tighten the bolts one by one, giving them a quarter turn.
- Are your wheels firmly attached and then loosened a quarter turn for smooth rolling?
Step 3: Start practicing
Start on a flat, dry surface—a schoolyard or quiet sidewalk is ideal. Begin with:
- Getting on and off
- Push off and drive straight ahead steadily
- Braking with your foot on the rear brake
Tip: Always wear a helmet and safety gear. Especially when performing tricks or performing at high speeds, this is essential.
Common beginner mistakes
- Loose handlebars or a crookedly mounted bar – always check
- Pushing with your front foot (yep, it happens more often than you think)
- Trying tricks on a wet or uneven surface
Ready for your first ride?
Give yourself some time. Everyone starts somewhere. And with a properly adjusted scooter, a little practice, and a bit of courage, you'll soon be riding like a pro in the park. Let's ride!
