Product description

HQ Step spring (Slinky)

Imagine a simple piece of metal that transforms into a magical movement of kicking, bouncing and twisting as it defies gravity. That is exactly what the original step spring, better known as the Slinky, does. This iconic bouncy ball has captured the hearts of people around the world since its invention in the 1940s, and its timeless appeal has endured for generations.

The history of the Slinky begins in 1943, when American engineer Richard James was looking for a way to stabilize the springs used in the maritime instruments he designed for the Navy during World War II. While experimenting with one of the feathers, it accidentally fell off his workbench and started moving on the floor in a way that fascinated James. This gave him the idea to create a toy that could "walk" from one hand to the other, and so the Slinky was born.

The first prototype of the Slinky was handmade from 80 feet of spring steel and quickly became a hit when James produced and sold a small batch during the Christmas season of 1945. The toy was officially launched at the American Toy Fair in 1946 and was already quickly became a sensation, with more than 300 copies sold in less than 90 minutes.

Since then, the Slinky has become one of the most beloved toy icons in the world, with millions of units sold and countless memories made by generations of children and adults. The Slinky's unique ability to convert energy into movement, its hypnotic bouncing action and its endless possibilities for creative play have made it an enduring favorite in the toy chests of families around the world.

But the Slinky isn't just a toy; it has also become a symbol of innovation, creativity and the endless possibilities of the human imagination. It has found its way into art, pop culture and even space, where it was used as an experiment to simulate weightlessness aboard the Skylab space station in the 1960s.

Today, the original pedal spring remains a timeless toy that continues to surprise and inspire young and old. Whether you're enjoying its hypnotic movements, coming up with creative game ideas, or simply reminiscing about your own childhood, the Slinky remains a symbol of joy, wonder, and infinite possibilities. So what are you waiting for? Grab a Slinky, bounce it down the stairs and watch the magic come to life before your eyes.
