The most commonly used playing styles are 1A, 3A and 5A.
Style 1A
In 1A, the player and the yo-yo (with ball bearings) are connected by the string. The player performs tricks by interacting with the string. This is currently the most popular yo-yo style.
Style 3A
This style is similar to 1A, but you use two yo-yos simultaneously—one in each hand. There's interaction between the two yo-yos, which requires extra technique and coordination.
Style 5A
With 5A, the yo-yo isn't attached directly to your finger, but to a counterweight at the end of the string. This significantly increases the number of possible tricks and figures and creates a unique playing experience.
