What parts do I need for my BMX, MTB, or wheelie bike?
Whether you're doing tricks on a BMX , riding manuals on a wheelie bike , or simply want to upgrade your bike, the right parts make all the difference. Here's what you need for your ideal setup.
What are the most popular parts?
- Pedals: Choose from plastic or aluminum flat pedals with good grip for tricks, street or dirt.
- Pegs: Essential for grinds and stunts – available in different materials.
- Valve Caps: Like dice, glow-in-the-dark, or other eye-catching styles.
- Cranks & bottom brackets: For direct pedaling power and a strong, durable setup.
- Grips & saddles: Comfort, grip and style to suit your own taste.
Pedals: plastic vs. aluminum
Flat pedals are the standard for BMX and wheelie bikes. But which one should you choose?
- Plastic pedals: Comfortable, lightweight, and gentle on your shins if you make a mistake. Ideal for beginners or casual use.
- Aluminum pedals: Offer more grip thanks to sharper pins and last longer. Many models have replaceable pins – handy if you ride a lot.
Pegs: steel, aluminum or hybrid?
Pegs are the metal tubes attached to your axles that allow you to grind on rails, curbs, or obstacles. But here too, you have choices:
- Steel pegs: Very strong, durable, and suitable for heavy grinds. Perfect for hardcore riders.
- Aluminum pegs: Lighter than steel, ideal for maintaining speed and control during tricks. Slightly less durable for intensive grinding, but excellent for technical riders.
- Hybrid pegs (steel core + plastic sleeve): Glide more smoothly over rails and are interchangeable. Popular with street riders.
Note: Always check that the pegs fit your axle size (usually 10mm or 14mm). If in doubt, contact us!
Extra safety and comfort
Upgrading is fun, but don't forget your protection. For extra safety, we recommend always wearing a good helmet . Gloves , elbow pads, and knee pads also make a difference if you fall or crash during tricks.
