Everything for your first ride

This is how you start well

Your skateboard is here – good job! But before you hit the skate park, we'll make sure your wheels , trucks , and grip are perfectly aligned. This way, you'll roll smoother, safer, and in your own style.

Step 1: Check your setup

  • Trucks & kingpin: are all bolts tight?
  • Wheels: Do they turn freely and without any strange noises?
  • Deck bolts: bolt heads flush with the deck – do not protrude, do not recess too deeply.
  • Grip tape: adheres tightly, no air bubbles, edges are secure. Test with your shoe: immediate grip = good. Clean with a stiff brush.

Step 2: Adjusting the wheels

  1. Adjust the wheels so they turn smoothly for better forward speed.
  2. First tighten the wheel a little, so that it no longer runs smoothly.
  3. Test – if it still runs stiffly, it is not optimal.
  4. Loosen the nut ¼ turn with your skate tool and retest.

Step 3: Adjusting the trucks

  1. Start neutral: standard tight setup as a starting point.
  2. Always use the correct key.
  3. Use the ¼ turn method : turn the kingpin nut a maximum of a quarter turn at a time and test in between.
  4. Stand on your deck and feel how smoothly it steers – make sure the wheels don't touch the deck.
  5. Tighter = more stable at higher speeds. Looser = smoother cornering.
  6. Test your balance by leaning slightly left/right.
  7. Make sure the truck nut always remains within reach of the retaining ring, otherwise it may vibrate loose.
  8. Always adjust in small steps and test after each change.

Step 4: Tune in to your style

  1. Street & tricks → often a bit tighter for more control.
  2. Cruising & carving → often slightly looser for smooth steering.
  3. Your setup is "living": bushings develop, your skills evolve. Check regularly and adjust accordingly.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Setting trucks too loose or too tight.
  • Going too fast on slopes without control.
  • Skating on gravel, sand or wet tiles (slippery = dangerous).
  • Choosing the wrong stance (regular vs. goofy) and not daring to switch.
  • Do not check or clean grip tape.

Ready to roll!

With these checks and adjustments, you'll be ready for safe rides and sharp turns. Take your time, practice, and adjust as needed.

For a truly safe start, it's important to always wear the right protection : a helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads. This reduces the risk of injury and allows you to skate with more confidence.

With the right setup, good protection, and a little courage, you'll be on your way in no time. Let's roll!
