How to Set Up, Check, and Prepare Your Unicycle for First Use
First time on your unicycle? Here's how to get started smartly
Your unicycle has arrived – time for action! But before you start doing any tricks, take it easy. A good first experience makes the difference between "meh" and "better!" We'll guide you step by step.
1. First put it together properly
A smooth start starts with a solid setup. This video shows you how to assemble your unicycle step by step:
Note: Parts marked with an "L" belong on the left side. This prevents loose pedals and keeps everything intact longer.
2. Adjust the saddle properly
Not too high, not too low—just right. Measure from the floor to just below your belly button. That's a good starting point.
In this video you can see how to best approach this:
- Tighten the saddle firmly? Definitely do so.
- Pedals tightened? Check.
- The band is firm, but not rock hard? Perfect.
3. Choose a nice place to start
Start on a flat surface. Preferably with something to hold on to—a wall, fence, or railing. No pebbles, slippery tiles, or slopes. Trust us.
4. The first meters
Time to get on and roll. In this video, you'll learn exactly how:
- Mounting: Pedals horizontal, dominant foot in front, support is allowed.
- Keep your balance: Pedal forward smoothly and look straight ahead—not at your feet.
- Dismounting: Practice dismounting in a controlled manner. It's better to step back than to fall forward.
Want to get better faster? Here's how:
- Always wear a helmet (and protection if you're just starting out).
- Practicing 10–15 minutes a day is enough to make rapid progress.
- Frustration? It's part of it. Perseverance = learning.
- Celebrate every success. Even if it's only 2 meters straight ahead.
