Santa Cruz Skateboards may be the first real skateboard company founded in the world. It has been around since the 1970s and the Santa Cruz brand has been among the top from day 1.
That's how it started....
In 1973, Richard Novak, Doug Haut and Jay Shuirman made surfboards with their company NHS Inc. in Santa Cruz (California). The three surfing friends had a lot of experience with surfing and building surfboards, but it was difficult to make a living from it. The name of the company: NHS came from the first letter of their surnames, Novak, Haut and Sherman. friend from a Hawaiian organization had a great challenge for NHS to make no less than 500 skateboards.
NHS had a lot of material and very few customers and decided to use the stock of material to make the skateboards. For example, the very first Santa Cruz skateboard was produced in 1973. The 500 skateboards sold out so quickly that new orders had to be placed quickly. NHS was renamed Santa Cruz Skateboards and the brand still exists to this day
